1 min. readAtariX, the Web3 initiative of video game pioneer Atari, is collaborating with Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 scaling blockchain, to bring classic titles to the blockchain. The partnership kicks off with the iconic arcade game Asteroids, where players control a spaceship to shoot and destroy asteroids. Through an onchain arcade, gamers can compete globally for prizes like a $1,000 Atari gift card by minting NFT access passes. Each pass costs 0.0015 ETH and allows players to record their scores on the blockchain. While Asteroids is available for free on other platforms, AtariX offers a competitive edge with the chance to win rewards and engage in a gaming ecosystem. This move follows a trend of games entering the blockchain space, such as SNES and Nintendo 64 emulators on Bitcoin. AtariX's initiative showcases the integration of classic gaming with crypto technology, appealing to both gamers and crypto enthusiasts alike.
