Beware of Crypto Scammers Impersonating Zoom
Tuesday. July 23 at 9:00 PM
1 min. readCrypto scammers have devised a new scheme involving fake Zoom links to trick users into installing malware, stealing $300,000 worth of crypto. The scammers target NFT holders and crypto whales, luring them with promises of licensing opportunities or new projects on Twitter Spaces. Once the victim clicks on the malicious link, they are prompted to download malware disguised as ZoomInstallerFull.exe. The malware infiltrates the system, stealing data and loot while distracting the user with a fake loading screen. To evade detection, the malware adds itself to the Windows Defender exclusion list. This sophisticated scam highlights the evolving tactics of social engineering in the crypto space. Users should remain vigilant against suspicious emails and attachments from unknown sources to avoid falling victim to such scams.
