1 min. readRapper Doja Cat's X account was hacked on July 8 to promote a scam token named after her, causing a market cap of $1.65 million before plummeting to $16,820. The hacked account posted negative content about rapper Iggy Azalea, urging followers to buy the scam token. Doja Cat denied involvement in the posts, clarifying that they were from an imposter. The hack also targeted influencers Andrew Tate and Nicki Minaj. Iggy Azalea confirmed that the posts were not from Doja Cat. The scam token, 'Doja Cat (DOJA),' reached a high of $0.001656 before dropping to $0.00001682, resulting in investor losses of over $1.63 million. This incident is part of a trend of celebrity memecoins facing rapid declines post-launch, potentially leading to legal repercussions. Another celebrity, Sydney Sweeny, also fell victim to a similar hack promoting an unofficial coin.
