Identifying Malicious Browser Extension Targeting Solana Users
Tuesday. August 20 at 11:30 PM
1 min. readDecentralized exchange aggregator Jupiter has uncovered a new harmful browser extension that has already siphoned funds from multiple Solana users. The extension, known as 'Bull Checker,' is able to bypass detection mechanisms. According to Jupiter founder Meow, the extension specifically targeted Solana users on Reddit by posing as a tool to view memecoin holders. Users were urged to remove the extension immediately due to its ability to modify transactions and steal funds. Despite requesting permissions to 'read and write' data, legitimate wallet-checking extensions should only require 'read-only' access. The extension could transfer tokens to unauthorized wallets without users' knowledge. Jupiter confirmed that major decentralized applications and wallets on the Solana network were not affected. This discovery follows recent exploits within the Solana ecosystem, highlighting the importance of vigilance when engaging with memecoins on the platform.
