Legal Battle Over HEX Token Price Manipulation
Wednesday. August 14 at 6:00 AM
1 min. readA US appeals court has partially overturned the dismissal of a class-action lawsuit against Binance.US, accusing the exchange of manipulating the price of the HEX token. The lawsuit, filed by Ryan Cox in 2021, alleges that Binance.US and CoinMarketCap artificially suppressed HEX's ranking, leading to lower trading prices. The court found that there were sufficient contacts with the US to establish personal jurisdiction over the defendants. The lawsuit also claims that Binance.US misused investor funds for personal expenses. The SEC has separately sued HEX's creator, Richard Heart, for securities violations. The token's price has plummeted since its peak in 2021. This legal battle sheds light on the challenges of regulating the crypto market, including the risks posed by automated trading bots.
