Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has proposed allocating a portion of the city's pension fund to cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Fulop mentioned updating the city's pension fund paperwork with the SEC to include investments in Bitcoin ETFs, following the example of the Wisconsin Pension Fund. While not specifying the exact percentage, Fulop expressed his belief in the potential of crypto and blockchain technology. Only a few publicly-run pension funds, including those from Wisconsin and Jersey City, are exploring crypto ETFs. Despite the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs by the SEC, major financial institutions like Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase have minimal investments in this sector. Fulop did not mention considering Ether ETFs, which recently began trading in the US. The move towards crypto investments reflects a growing trend in the financial sector.
