1 min. readA scammer who stole $24 million in a phishing attack last September has surprisingly returned nearly $9.3 million to the victim. The return was made using Dai stablecoin in two transactions, with $5.23 million sent on July 8 and $4.04 million on July 13. The victim fell for the scam by approving token transfers to the scammer, resulting in the loss of 9,579 Lido Staked Ether and 4,850 Rocket Pool tokens. The recent return amounts to a 38.4% refund at previous prices. Despite the transfer, the scammer's wallet still holds over $3 million, mostly in the MEGALAND token. Phishing scams in 2023 totaled nearly $300 million, with notable scammers like Inferno Drainer and MS Drainer. The incident highlights the risks associated with ERC-20 token features and the need for increased security measures in the crypto space.
