Protecting Crypto Developers: A Call for Innovation
Saturday. July 20 at 5:00 AM
1 min. readThe Republican National Convention has approved President Donald Trump's new platform for the Republican Party, which includes a pro-innovation crypto policy. While Trump's commitment to defending Americans' rights to mine Bitcoin and transact freely is commendable, there is a missing pledge to protect developers of decentralized projects from government interference. The Biden administration's hostile stance towards crypto companies like Ripple and Coinbase extends to developers of privacy-preserving technologies. The recent indictment of Roman Storm and Roman Semenov, developers of Tornado Cash, sets a concerning precedent. Prosecuting developers for the misuse of their tools could hinder innovation in privacy-preserving technologies. By championing innovation and providing a welcoming environment for the crypto industry, a potential second Trump administration must also defend the rights of developers creating tools for digital privacy and financial autonomy. This shift in policy could offer more certainty and assurance to the crypto industry.
