1 min. readTokenized real-world assets (RWAs) present a $30 trillion market opportunity globally, according to Colin Butler, Polygon’s global head of institutional capital. High-net-worth individuals are expected to drive adoption by increasing allocations to alternative assets like private credit. Tokenization provides liquidity and accessibility to traditionally illiquid asset classes. Butler highlighted that individuals with net worths between $1 million and $30 million own $100 trillion in global assets, with minimal exposure to alternative assets. The tokenized private credit market has seen $9 billion in investments, with significant growth anticipated as large private equity funds enter the space. Major players like KKR and Brevan Howard have already tokenized assets on Polygon. Butler foresees billions of dollars in additional tokenized private asset issuance in the future. Currently, around $11.6 billion in tokenized RWAs are on blockchain networks, with popular assets being tokenized money market funds like BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund and Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund managed on RWA.xyz. Polygon Technology, with a TVL of $850 million, develops blockchain scaling solutions and operates an Ethereum scaling chain.
