1 min. readRecent reports suggest that an on-chain investigator has accused Vitalik Buterin, the Ethereum founder, of involvement in the $500 million Gatecoin hack in 2016. The investigator claims that funds from Buterin's Ethereum Foundation were transferred to the hackers' wallet. TruthLabs, a prominent crypto sleuth, alleges Buterin's direct role in Ethereum's first hack, resulting in a loss of over $500 million. The investigator revealed that the Gatecoin hacker's wallet received ETH from three sources, including the Ethereum Foundation and Ethereum's Genesis Block 0 account. Additionally, a wallet linked to core Ethereum developer Vlad Zamfir was implicated. Despite these claims, there has been no official response from Buterin or the Ethereum Foundation. TruthLabs also highlighted connections between Silk Road's Bitcoin and Ethereum's funding, criticizing Buterin for not supporting Ross Ulbricht's release. The investigator accused Buterin of lacking integrity for using Silk Road's Bitcoin to establish the Ethereum foundation without advocating for Ulbricht's release.
