1 min. readThe Arkansas Senate's City, County and Local Affairs Committee recently voted 5 to 1 against a bill that aimed to prohibit crypto mining facilities within a 30-mile radius of any military facility in the state. The bill highlighted risks to national security and the state of Arkansas posed by digital asset mining, especially when in close proximity to US military facilities. Similar concerns about noise pollution, sustainability, and national security have been raised in other attempts to regulate crypto mining facilities across the US. In a related development, 23 US lawmakers wrote to the Environmental Protection Agency expressing worries about the environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining. Former President Joe Biden previously ordered the closure of a mining facility near a US Air Force base due to concerns about surveillance activities. More recently, residents in Texas filed a lawsuit against a mining company, citing excessive noise and associated health issues.
