Celestia Poised to Overtake Ethereum in Onchain Data Storage

Celestia, a layer-1 data availability network, is on track to surpass Ethereum as the top onchain data storage provider, as per Blockworks Research. Since May, Celestia has been steadily gaining market share from Ethereum, starting at 20% and reaching around 40% by July 31. Launched in 2023, Celestia offers a modular data availability network for launching blockchains securely, competing directly with Ethereum. Despite Ethereum's Dencun upgrade introducing cost-saving measures like 'blobs' for offchain data storage, Celestia still offers cheaper data storage solutions. Other challengers in data availability include EigenLayer and Avail. However, Ethereum's dominance in decentralization, stability, and total value locked (TVL) solidifies its position as Web3's primary settlement layer. According to Blockworks' Dan Smith, Ethereum's core strengths ensure its continued relevance in the evolving crypto landscape.

Elon Musk Claims DDoS Attack on Social Media Platform During Interview with Donald Trump

Tuesday. August 13 at 8:30 AM

Elon Musk, the owner of X, stated that the social media platform experienced a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack just as his planned interview with presidential candidate Donald Trump was about to begin. Musk announced on X on Aug. 12 that there was a significant DDoS attack on X and efforts were being made to stop it. A DDoS attack is designed to overwhelm a network or service with traffic to disrupt legitimate users from accessing it. Technical difficulties affected the X Space event where Musk and Trump were supposed to speak at 8:00 pm ET, preventing some users from joining. Despite the stream showing as 'not available,' approximately 120,000 users were still able to participate. Musk eventually started the interview around 8:30 pm ET, mentioning that it would proceed with fewer live listeners and unedited audio would be released immediately after. Musk also commented on the opposition to Trump's views during the interview.
